This week, the Municipal Administration of Citerna presented the important archaeological finds discovered during the restoration of the Cylindrical Fortified Tower during a conference entitled “Recovery and Enhancement of the Fortified Tower and Fortress of the Medieval Walls”.
Walls and a rectangular bastion belonging to the medieval fortress were found, along with an underground access to the upper garden next to the Fortified Tower.
In the future, thanks to this find, it will be possible to access the Fortress and garden not just from the upper part, the acropolis, but also from the path that is partly underground just before the Fortified Tower. A new entrance will also be created from inside the Fortress.
These new discoveries will enhance the south-western area of Citerna and visiting this already beautiful village will become even more interesting and evocative.
